I've developed a lump or pus! How to deal with piercing problems according to symptoms! Things to be careful of when sleeping

by 4mili 12 Jul 2022

Many people must be troubled by problems with their first piercing, such as "The area around the piercing hole is itchy," "It feels hard and tingly when I touch it," "Pus is coming out," "The piercing gets caught on the pillow while I'm sleeping," etc.

This time, we will explain in detail the causes and treatments for three common problems around the piercing hole: infection, rash, and lumps!

We will also introduce things to be careful of when bathing and how to deal with problems while sleeping, so be sure to check it out during the troublesome summer ♡

3 common problems with piercings

① Suppuration

Symptoms: Pus is coming out, or there is swelling or pain.

The causes of the above symptoms
Not keeping the piercing hole clean
・Weakened immune system
・Weak skin

- Hair or clothing gets caught on the skin, causing a wound and allowing bacteria to get in .

The solution is to drain the pus and clean the area. Lather up some mild soap and gently wash the area.
When doing so, be sure to rinse thoroughly in the shower so that no residue remains. If any bubbles remain, bacteria will grow...!

The important thing to remember here is not to force the pus out, as doing so may make the condition worse.

Also, avoid using disinfectants as they can kill the bacteria necessary for wound healing.

②Rash

Symptoms: Itching or peeling around the piercing hole.

If you experience any of the above symptoms, it may be because the material of the earrings is not suitable for you. Or, you may be suffering from a metal allergy.

Be sure to lather up with soap and wash gently. You can also consider replacing your earrings with resin ones until the symptoms subside!

To prevent the condition from worsening, try not to scratch it even if it itches. This can cause wounds and bacteria to get into the hole.

③ Lump

Symptoms: Hard and numb when touching the piercing hole

If you have a small lump around the piercing hole, it's mainly because new skin is forming inside the piercing hole.

Many lumps will disappear naturally over time, so rely on the body's natural healing powers!

If you are really concerned about the lump, you may want to choose a material that is less likely to put strain on the piercing hole.
Surgical stainless steel and resin are gentle on the skin and are recommended.

If the condition does not improve, seek medical attention!

If the pain or swelling does not go away or gets worse, or if the infected area has hardened, see a dermatologist as soon as possible!

If the infection continues to progress, it may remain as a keloid* or lump if left untreated.
*Keloid: A condition in which a scar is red and raised.

Piercing trouble! What should I do when I take a bath or go to bed?

Baths are OK. If it is infected, only showers are allowed.

Basically, bathing is OK!
Be sure to thoroughly rinse the area around the piercing to remove any shampoo or conditioner suds. Be careful not to catch the piercing on your hair, as this can cause scratches.

If your piercing is infected, only take showers.
Soaking in a bathtub will slow down the healing process!

I don't take it off even when I sleep.

Even if the piercing has become infected, do not remove it even when you go to sleep until the piercing hole is healed!

If you're worried that your earrings will get caught on your pillowcase, try changing to a pillowcase that is soft and smooth to the touch.
Also, choosing earrings with a simple, unadorned design will help you sleep soundly without stress.

The small earrings are also cute.

If you are having trouble with your piercing, find out the cause of the problem and then take action! Proper care will also help it heal faster.

Keep your skin clean with proper daily care and reduce itching and pus!
